Programme - LCN GORIZIA-NOVA GORICA

PILOT AREA GORIZIA-NOVA GORICA

Among the SAFE-CITIES pilot areas, the case of Gorizia-Nova Gorica constitutes a unique example. In fact, the project has planned a final demonstration involving the two neighbouring cities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica in a complex cross-border scenario.

The demonstration will take place in a square (Trg Evrope/Piazza Transalpina), which falls under the jurisdiction of separate national entities and local authorities (Italy and Slovenia), offering an opportunity for collaboration between different security ecosystems in two distinct countries. The square is in fact a unique case in Italy, Slovenia and Europe, as the border runs right through the centre of the square.

The opportunity also stems from the fact that the two cities will jointly host the Nova Gorica-Gorizia-European Capital of Culture event in 2025, and the cross-border square will serve as a focal point for cultural activities planned for 2025, attracting both locals and tourists from all over the world.
In Gorizia and Nova Gorica the local partners (ISIG, CGO, CRIGO, MONG, SNP) are working to test the methodologies developed by the project on a case study that will take place in the pilot area of Gorizia and Nova Gorica.

The methodologies focus on the analysis of security and vulnerability of public spaces and on the participatory model for the selection and involvement of local stakeholders.

The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101073945
