Abstract: The issue deals with forecasting methods applied to micro-and macro-problems, faced by an Italian perspective. The first part focuses on methods: the role of decision makers in participatory democracy (A. Gasparini), the forecast in ‘intelligence’ (U. Gori), the results and evaluations of Delphi researches (G. Marini), the function and effectiveness of the panel-based and focus group (S. Arnaldi), the reliability of the forecasting models (L. Bozzo). The second part presents the forecast applied to small and/or local problems: cross-border cooperation (E. Ferluga), holidays (M. Zago), commuting that turns into emigration (A. Pacinelli), the prediction of the results of a ‘virtual hospital for healthy’ in the heart of the Mediterranean (A. Cattaneo). The third part extends the perspective of forecasting: cultural production and its connection to the European national characters (M. Tessarolo); the role of conflict prevention through peace-keeping operations (M. Lozzi); governance and democracy in Europe (V. Memoli); the forecast of the future of Europe (P. Baldocci) and of the reconstruction of the European Union (M. Coen).
