A UNESCO Learning City is a city that promoteslifelong learning as a tool for social, cultural, economic and sustainable development. Through the international UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, member cities strive to create inclusive environments in which citizens of all ages can access formal, nonformal and informal educational opportunities throughout the lifespan. A Learning City connects schools, universities, public agencies, businesses, libraries, associations and local communities to foster civic participation, social inclusion, innovation, sustainability and skills development. The goal is to transform the city into a widespread educational ecosystem capable of improving quality of life, social cohesion and democratic participation through lifelong learning.
The role of ISIG
ISIG supported the City of Cividale del Friuli in developing the candidacy for the UNESCO Global NEtwork of Learning Cities with a self-assessment and strategic planning process to identify concepts and strengths and weaknesses of the city with a view to promoting lifelong learning. Following this, ISIG co-produced the nomination form with the relevant offices.
