Validating preparedness through collaboration: ATLAS tested in Rotterdam

On June 17, 2026, ISIG participated in the SYNERGIES Validation Workshop held in Rotterdam, which brought together professionals, experts, and stakeholders to explore and validate the ATLAS for Empowerment platform.

Through a hands-on validation session, participants explored the platform’s key features, tested its practical applicability, and shared valuable feedback on how ATLAS can support preparedness planning, stakeholder engagement, and community empowerment in the context of disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).

The workshop created an open space for discussion and reflection, allowing participants to move from the challenges and needs related to preparation to concrete strategies and actions, while also assessing the relevance and usability of the platform in various organizational and regional contexts.

Focus of the work:

▪️ Validation of the Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) as a starting point for identifying needs and challenges related to preparedness
▪️ Exploration of the Strategy Builder to transform assessment results into actionable preparedness pathways
▪️ Testing of the new Contributions section to support knowledge sharing and collective learning
▪️ Collection of stakeholder feedback on usability, relevance, clarity, and future adoption of the platform

The validation results will directly contribute to the final refinement of ATLAS, ensuring that the platform remains practical, accessible, and capable of meeting the needs of preparedness stakeholders across Europe.

For ISIG, these validation activities are much more than simple testing exercises: they represent opportunities to learn directly from professionals, civil protection personnel, local authorities, and community stakeholders, helping us to co-create tools based on real needs that can support more resilient and better-prepared communities.
