Special Event: Topographies of Memory
2013, Oct. 18-19, Gorica, Nova Gorica, Council of Europe
Tools, methods and practices for transfrontier cooperation. Topographies of memory.
October 18-19, 2013.
Widespread museum of the border area.
Gorizia, Nova Gorica
As part of the CoE Seminar, it will be possible to participate in “Topographies of Memory,” a “guided walk” through the places of memories and the memories of the places of the border area.During the walk, which will start from the public gardens and end in Transalpina Square, passing through the Casa Rossa and Rafut crossings, an attempt will be made to understand the complex stratifications of histories and memories that characterize these spaces.
This is not a classic sightseeing tour, but rather an itinerary among photographs, films and oral testimonies that will foreground the life experiences of people who lived in Gorizia (and then also in Nova Gorica) in the first half of the twentieth century.Images, voices, interactive timelines will be available for consultation on smartphones and tablets thanks to the potential offered by the “Diffuse Museum of the Border Area,” an innovative open-air cross-border museum route. The project is coordinated by the association Forty-sevenzerofour in cooperation with Isig and the National Museum of Contemporary History in Ljubljana and with support from the European Union’s Eacea program.
The visit will be a participatory and dialogic experience, in which the memories of older generations will be confronted with the experiences of visitors.Edited by: Alessandro Cattunar, Paola Tarantelli and Kaja Širok
