Abstract: The present issue of ISIG Journal focuses on the areas, the societies and the nations located around the Mediterranean basin. The policies and relations developed in such context represent the future challenges which the Mediterranean regions (the European Union and the Middle East) will have to face. Thus, the Mediterranean is becoming an important variable of the European enlargement process. The ISIG Journal aims at providing an original interpretative framework for the social and political changes occurring at the European level, starting from its top-down relations and bottom-up interactions with the Mediterranean.
