From May 18-21, ISIG participated in the Transport Research Arena (TRA), Europe’s leading event dedicated to research and innovation in transport, logistics and mobility, sponsored by the European Commission and key stakeholders in the sector, which this year had Budapest as its host venue.
TRA’s mission is to foster collaboration and exchange at the frontier between research, innovation, and policy-making at the European, national, and regional levels to foster sustainable development in the transportation sector. Every two years, TRA serves as a platform for dialogue between the scientific community, industry, and policymakers.
ISIG and the SETO project
ISIG participated in the event as a partner in the SETO – Smart Enforcement of Transport Operations project, funded under the Horizon Europe program. SETO aims to overcome the current system of enforcement in freight transport, predominantly based on random and roadside inspections, by encouraging the development of technological solutions that enable remote monitoring. The main product of the project is the creation of a digital platform (SETO Digital Platform) that aspires to act as an efficient and secure gateway for authorities and transport operators in Europe.
The project was present with its own booth within the Transport Europe stand, the exhibition area coordinated by the European Commission that brings together the main European projects in the field. In this context, ISIG had the opportunity to present the results of the project to visitors and to disseminate a questionnaire on policy and research recommendations for smart enforcement-an activity that is part of the coordination work ISIG is conducting under SETO deliverable D5.7.
KEYSTONE’s final event.
ISIG also took part in the closing event of KEYSTONE, SETO’s “sister” project. The event, titled “From Data to Action: Enabling Paperless and Smart Digital Enforcement Compliance in Transport & Logistics,” brought together the consortia of the two projects along with EU representatives, industry experts, researchers and policymakers to demonstrate the potential of digital data exchange to support efficient logistics operations and more effective EU-wide enforcement.
Here, ISIG presented a paper focused on thesocial acceptance of new technologies and incentives related to the voluntary adoption of the platform developed by the project. The session was also an opportunity to explore the synergies between SETO and KEYSTONE, possible strategies for capitalizing on the results, and prospects for future development.
ARF 2026 once again confirmed the importance of moments like these to build synergies between research, industry, and policy, and to move toward a safer, sustainable, and digitally integrated European transportation system.
