Abstract: After the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, the international community mobilized to assist the affected population. One of the most significant initiatives, which in Italy has taken on considerable dimensions, are the temporary stays abroad of children, with therapeutic purposes.
The study presented here investigates in depth the reasons that guide the activities of the solidarity actors supportive toward Belarus and the special character – spontaneous and fragmented – of the Italian solidarity movement. Subsequently, the author tries to understand what kind of benefits resulted in Belarus and what kind of impact the Italian stays of children have on the country’s reality.
