Abstract: The issue works out the idea that a more collaborative Europe can come from border towns.
In the first part, mainly a ‘definitional’ one, models and experiences of collaboration lived by some European border cities are presented.
The second part illustrates different ways of being a border city in different historical, geographical, political and cultural contexts.
The third part takes up and develops the theoretical discourse on the role of border towns in international relations, on the relationship between city and border, on education to multiculturalism.
